Burma's monks call for Muslim community to be shunned
In a move that has shocked many observers, some monks' organisations
have issued pamphlets telling people not to associate with the Rohingya
community, and have blocked humanitarian assistance from reaching them.
One leaflet described the Rohingya as "cruel by nature" and claimed it

Corrupt capitalism approaching endemic levels
Barclays Bank submitted false and misleading figures about the banks’s
financial standing in a bid to boost profits during the peak of the
recession through 2007 and 2009. This was done to disguise the financial
difficulty that Barclays was going through during the economic downturn
and astonishingly but perhaps unsurprisingly may have had the blessing

a new report from the International Crisis Group, proposes ways for the
government to win back society’s confidence, tackle political
infighting and distance itself from the leadership and practices of the
past. It warns that the democratic transition remains messy and
incomplete and that any failure to address the challenges soon will
weigh heavily on an already divided and increasingly impoverished
