It is now over three years since the LTTE
was decisively defeated by the Government of Sri Lanka. Since then the
government and the international community have been grappling with the
issue of winning peace, addressing the causes which gave rise to the

Sri Lankan Muslims; Despicable attack on Iftar party at Akkaraipattu!
ABSOLUTE
DISGRACE. This is how one could describe the shameful and disgusting
attack on Muslims by Muslims during an Iftar gathering at Akkaraipattu
in the eastern Sri Lanka on Monday 13 August 2012. By
all means this was a heinous crime committed by thugs, hooligans and
gangsters who call themselves Muslims. The irony is that never in the
centuries old history of Muslims in this country even non-Muslims ever
committed such dastardly crime bringing unprecedented disrepute to
Muslim community which was hailed by former Chief Justice Sarath N Silva

over many years. Some have described them as the most persecuted
minority in the world, yet the lack of prominence given to their cause
show exactly how politicized humanitarian and human rights campaigning
bodies are. Indeed, even the Nobel Peace Prize winning Aung San Suu Kyi
refused to accept they are Burmese citizens, instead saying this “ethnic conflict should be investigated and dealt with wisdom.“ Read more>>>

Sri Lankan government moves to gag web sites
The regulations would extend the coverage of the Press Council, a
government tribunal that can fine and jail journalists, to web sites as
well as other media outlets. This step is part of an intensifying attack
on media and democratic rights, designed to strengthen the police-state
apparatus developed by President Mahinda Rajapakse amid an intensifying
economic and political crisis. Read more>>>
